LEJ DHL Hub

DHL is a logistic in division of the Deutsch Post providing express mails internationally. DHL Hub LEJ is sharing its location with the LEJ Airport. The founders of the organization in 1969 were Adrian Dalsey, Larry Hillbom and Robert Lynn (DHL). They personally delivered their first shipment of their country by themselves.
The first DHL logo didn't include the yellow background it was added in on 2008, when there were about 2000 employees at DHL Hub Leipzig. They reached up to 6000 employees in year 2012.

These are the 4 main parts of LEJ DHL Hub which all end up in Deutsche Post of DHL

In 1998, Deutsche Post bought 25% of DHL stocks to get from Brussel into Germany with continuing their stocks into 51% in 2001. In 2004 the DHL Hub LEJ joint ventures with Lufthansa Condor and later sharing their aircrafts with Lufthansa, British Airlines, Polar Air and Polar Air.
The Vision of the Company is to make the Costumers, use their service to deliver packages, to simplify the lives of their costumers, which is hard to deal with when the Companies are sprat over 120 Countries. By having their aim set up to “Deliver packages from one day to another worldwide as quick as possible”, that they provide their costumers with. Were as in Leipzig over 800 people work in the Warehouse every night to deliver over 250000 packages, flyers etc. very night in about 50 Airplanes that leave every night.

The company is well organized by express deliveries worldwide, forwarding in trucks, train and planes by the warehouse service that goes beyond just storage, that’s why DHL Hub Leipzig had it grand new opening on Monday 13th October 2014 for the second warehouse that is still getting prepared.
The company is divided into different departments as the Warehouse, deployment scheduling (PES), Sort Control, QCC, Communications (Event Manager), Equipment department, Network Control Center (NCC), Hangar, Apron Crews, which include the dispatch, scheduling crew for the pilots and airplanes.

Although the Company takes in a lot of space including the apron, they try to use as many resources as they can as rain water, they recycle, saving energy and using thermal energy, to reduce the costs of the Company to get more income. That the company can reinvest their profit into new project as the Leipzig Hub invested into their new Warehouse because there is a lack of space, which gives them weakness.

The connection to our Business Management syllabus is the topic stakeholders, the objectives, their aim and their strategy that they are able to deliver 160000 Tonnes of packages every night from Leipzig Hub into 120 different countries, which is an pretty amazing number.

The LEJ DHL Hub includes an Air and a Land side. The Land side is used for offices for different departments as Communication and Human Resources. Were as The Air Side - which requires every time you go there a massive security check to go onto the Apron or the Warehouse etc.

1st Warehouse at LEJ DHL Hub
The Company is being global by sending flyers, mails etc. over airplanes all around the world, which makes them worldwide as well as the strategy to provide and meet the needs of the costumers that they will choose their service again. The change in LEJ DHL Hub is the new Warehouse and they keep expanding their area.

Kalitta Air (the model we went into)

My experience at LEJ DHL Hub was pretty impressive through going into different departments, meeting new people and seeing the strategy´s they are using to solve some problems. I gathered more experience in this workplace, to see how the packages are able to get to the right person, what actually is behind all the activities they do in the Company. The most exiting part was the Apron Tour, were we went into a B747-400 Kalitta Airline plane (A300), which is impressive to see. It were mazing and exiting at workplace for 2 days, even if we got to many information´s we couldn’t handle at once.

The main Hubs  opened in Canada (1976-77) / West Europe (1971-72) / Mexico (1978) / Africa (1979) / Middle East (1976-77) and Asia (1971-73), these were the first Hubs in there region.
