Follow the Product: Background

Samsung Galaxy A5

The company Samsung is a South Korea based multinational Company/ Corporation that specializes itself in the business communication system. As seen with all their different mobile phones/ smartphones they have produced so far. Lee Byung-Chul in1938 in Seoul founded the Company. Samsung is one of the largest electronics device producers/ manufacturers in the whole world.

Samsung´s Logo/ Trademark is not really something special but the trademark has a meaning behind it.  The slightly tilted ellipse represents the universe and the blue in which the ellipse is fully coloured in, represents the ocean and the sky. Furthermore does the title end on the borderline, which means that Samsung is connected with the world, by being know everywhere – brand awareness.

Samsung Slogan is “Inspire the World, Create the Future”, which means that Samsung changes the world and invents new creations for us. As well referring to the “create a future” part. Does this betray the message that we will still rely on smartphones in the future and that they will keep continue be our supplier.

The product that I have chosen is one Smartphone out of their new series, which is the Samsung Galaxy A5.  The Smartphone is based on Android 4.4 with a display of 5.15 inches. The Phone has 16GB of Memory but this can be expanded to 64GB as well is this new Samsung product available in 4 different colours in Germany.

Many customers are persuaded to buy the Samsung Galaxy A5 because its different from the usual smartphones up till now from Samsung. In case of the Galaxy A5, is this the first phone which is not covered by plastic around but by metal, which is available in 4 different colours – Pearl White, Midnight-black, Platinum-Silver, Champagne-Gold.  Many people also are motivated to buy this phone because of the rewards the receive from Samsung by being their product. As for the new Samsung products, did the Company have a special offer by receiving the “My Samsung Reward” app, which gives you PAYBACK points and discounts for dine out or coffee in exchange for buying their product. Which makes the sales numbers not bias because the Company gives something as an exchange for buying their product.

Samsung is targeting with the new Galaxy A5, people who mainly focuses on music and for leisure activities, which gives you an clear idea of the target audience. Which would be teenagers, the phone is easy to use as well is the phone specialist and teenager/ young adults needs and wants from a smartphone. Therefore you can see that Samsung thinks about what their customers want. The Galaxy A5 targets the more youthful demographics of the population.

Samsung is facing a lot of issues by inventing a lot of new products, because they have a high market value, which categorises some brands at the same level. Which therefore leads to a competition between the Smartphone/ Tablet industry.
Samsung is facing competition like Apple, LG, HTC, Motorola, Nokia, Blackberry and Lenovo in the smartphone industry.  Samsung´s highest competition is Apple, LG, HTC – Motorola, Nokia, Lenovo and Blackberry are considered a minor completion against Samsung.
As to say is there a huge battle on the smartphone market by letting all these companies as mention at the top compete against each other. Considering the Phone Brand Market Shares are Samsung and Apple close to each other. Up till now does Samsung have a Market Share of 38%, where as Apple has a difference of 4%. All the other Phone Brand Companies have market shares from 2-8% each.  For that you can clearly visualise that Samsung has a higher market share but faces a lot of competition, while reaching the top.

  1. 25/30 - a good overview of the product and a good understanding of the background of the firm. One major point is striking, you obviously have conducted research, so 1. where are the sources, and 2. why aren't you statements supported by facts and figures. You say Samsung has 38% market share and Apple a 4% difference (is this a positive or negative difference though). Possibly room for more business terminology.
